All our products are hand made in the UK from recycled or pre-used materials. Every item is unique and like each of us, has its own story.

Michael

Owner/creator/designer/photographer/maker

I can be found peddling our wares in a market in North East England when we are not beachcombing for inspiration. Having a business based around upcycling is demanding work but very rewarding.

Sylvia

Owner/Designer/maker

Sylvia thought she was retiring from work instead she was starting a new career. This is much more fun, and it is lovely to see the finished articles and say "We made that"

Michael and his partner Sylvia are Sea Drift Design. Michael comes from Chester and went to university in Newcastle before winning a scholarship to study fine art in the Netherlands. This is where his career as an artist and designer began and where he worked for 10 years before returning to the UK where he has worked both as a free lance artist and latterly in further education.

Sylvia was a science technician who has always been a keen sewer and knitter, having made various garments from christening and wedding dresses to gilets and work clothes.

They both live in Whitley Bay. The designs have been developed by Michael, with both of them doing the making.

Both Michael and Sylvia are keen recyclers and beach combers, collecting the shells, sea glass and drift wood from our local beaches. They are environmentally conscious having their own allotment to produce fruit and vegetables for themselves, family and friends. A business based on remaking used articles into something beautiful fulfilled their beliefs.
